cheat sheet.

Not much is known about Ethan Winters prior to when he showed up to a Texas Chainsaw Massacre knockoff. In order to try and make sense of this guy and what little we know of him, I have attempted to compile things we know about Ethan, as well as a few headcanons for easiness' sake. An asterisk (*) at the beginning of a line indicates it is either entirely headcanon, or something I've inferred from the games/supplementary material such as The Baker Incident Report, artbooks, or developer interviews. It can, theoretically, get jossed if Capcom makes the decision to bring the Winters family back.

Anything written in green indicates that the entire line is headcanon. I've kept this page entirely to things I feel I can point to within canon.

- * Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Ethan moved down to Texas to pursue an education in Computer Sciences.
- After graduating college, he remained in Texas. There, he met Mia; they married in the spring of 2011.
- His occupation title is Systems Engineer. It is not clear what kind of company he worked/works for. If I have to answer this in a thread, I default to a cybersecurity company (it's funniest to me).
- In addition to jazz, he listens to a lot of emotional 2000's rock like 3 Doors Down, Foo Fighters, Creed, etc. What Gen Z kids might call Dad Rock, basically.
- He has truly atrocious posture. Ethan is always a little hunched over or bending his knees a bit. Who can say why, really.
- * He plays piano as a hobby.
- * Another hobby of his is puzzles. While he has a fondness for logic and number puzzles, he's generally down for a jigsaw, too.
- Despite never studying it, he's a surprisingly good artist. He likes to doodle things he sees.
- Ethan suspected something had happened to Mia prior to her failure to return home on time, as he did not receive her video messages.
- * Not contacting the police regarding the strange email he received from Mia's mail address was a decision Ethan made after having his trust broken in authority. Due to her ties to The Connections, Mia's case was handled strangely and inefficiently, though Ethan had no way to know what the reason for that was. As such, he now holds a natural distrust for authority. Sorry, Chris.
- * He tried to date again shortly before receiving Mia's email.
- * Following the Baker Farm incident, Ethan no longer experiences hunger. His body temperature runs normal but his extremities are usually cold. He is, on some level, aware something happened to him (his body) but he suppresses it in order to keep sane.
- Ethan received military training through the BSAA. If prompted, Ethan is likely to say Chris was his trainer.
- Even post-Resident Evil 8, Ethan doesn't know what Mia's tie to Eveline and The Connections was.
